About Us

Credo's vision is to promote information literacy and research effectiveness.  At Credo, serving libraries is what we do.  We work closely with institutions to provide a discoverable and compelling online reference service that learners, educators and researchers cannot do without.

The company was founded as Xrefer in 1999 and continued to evolve over the next ten years. The product changed from a Reference Database when it was launched to a Reference eBook Platform with discovery and connectivity tools to other e-resources.  Living into its mission, Credo Reference is now further focusing on information literacy by enhancing its new platform and developing information literacy tools and services.

Credo Reference has quickly become a leader in the library technology sector.  In 2010, a review of Credo General Reference by Library Journal focused on Credo Reference and three similar services, posing the question “…whether we should begin to expect more from a reference ebook collection than a faithful reproduction of a printed text.”  The review noted Credo Reference’s recent improvements, which included integration with social media sites and online research tools. It also highlighted the customization options that allow a librarian to incorporate important local resources and internal linking within the site to all e-resources as an information literacy tool.

We are also well known for our customer service and educational offerings.  We are proud to partner with libraries in defining their role in the digital age, responding to challenges with a renewed focus on a long-run vision of success and defining a path towards it.
